What Age of Empires IV should be?
Coming back with a new franchise game is not easy but there are things Microsoft must do to guarantee the success of Age of Empires IV.
The most amazing feature of games, as well as the biggest challenge to the developers is reinventing the wheel. No, not literally. Many games can only be one thing. If it’s good, it will be played for decades, like Age of Empires II. But that also means that the audience of die-hard fans is already there. Give them another edition of the game and see the profits roll in.
Look at titles like the Football Manager, FIFA (or any sports franchise), Civilization, grand strategies like Crusader Kings or Hearts of Iron and many others. It’s not like they can focus on storytelling. Hitman 47 series showed us how repurposing what you already have, adding story and better graphics can charm customers.
But many game developers can’t do that. FIFA will always be what it is. As will Age of Empires. Or will it? With the announcement of the 4th edition of the Age of Empires there is no shortage of speculation about what the game should or shouldn’t be. But the community seems to have decided – bring us our beloved game back!
What Microsoft should make age of Empires about
Let’s recognize the fact that developers here can do a lot wrong and very little right. It’s hard when the game such as Age of Empires 4 is anticipated by millions of loyal fans. Many of us would actually love the company to err on the side of caution and, in addition to making the game as beautiful as they can, make it simple.
Don’t do micro transactions
Rockstar failed their fans with GTA. Though, it’s hard to say ‘No’ when it has earned you over a half of a billion dollars . It’s not a mobile game. If you want to play online for pennies, on this site top-casino-bonus.co.uk you can play casino games and pay with your phone bill. But please, Microsoft, leave Age of Empires alone.
Make DLCs free
Either make the game and be done with it, or, if you are releasing DLCs, do what CD Projekt Red did with Wither 3 and release free packs. It shows people you care more about them than your bottom line.
However, in the long run free DLCs also come back in revenue in a form of loyal customers.
Teach something
Age of Empires is neither a fantasy nor a historical game. But as a fourth edition of the series, teaching about ancient architecture or tactics of battles could be a breath of fresh air. Maybe something like Assassins Creed?
Don’t be too serious
Civilization, similarly to Age of Empires is a beloved series which is about history of the world but not exactly historical. Though, the humor they present leaders with or that hilarious repair animation reminds players to not forget to have fun despite the competitiveness of the game.
